Sales Funnels

Sales Funnels: This topic may be known by some, but to those of you that have never heard of this term or know very little about, it is going to help you expand you knowledge on the business and sales cycle. Remember, the objective here is for you to start learning a little bit more in order to increase your worth. The more you know, the more potential you have to teach others and be of value. Keep that in mind.

Ok, so what is a Sales Funnel ?

A sales funnel is a systematic way in which a business moves a potential prospect through the pre-defined sales process in order to achieve a sale.

If you look around you, everything is a Sales Funnel. From your local grocery store, to shopping centers and malls, and online stores. Sales Funnels are everywhere! Without a sales funnel, a business would miss out of opportunities to create sales that otherwise would not be possible do to this systematic approach to “leading” the prospect or customer through a sequence of steps or events until they purchase.

Below is a picture of what a typical sales funnel looks like.

As you can see, a sales funnel is called a “funnel” due to the dynamics of the sales process. Starting from a large entrance or opening and ending down to a very small exit. Now let’s look at how this sales funnel translates to a real world example. Let’s use your favorite electronics (ABC Electronics) store to help us understand this process better.

1. CAMPAIGN : Looking at the funnel starting from the top you see the widest opening or entry point  into the sales funnel. This typically starts by a business creating Advertisements to entice and create as much interest to potential customers to come in. Using ABC Electronics as an example, you can imaging them sending a promotional coupon directly to your mail box at home. Keep in mind that just like you, hundreds or even thousand of other people will be receiving this Ad. ABC Electronics is casting a wide net over an area of people they believe will respond to their Ad.  Let’s assume the offer was for 25%OFF their 60″ Flat Screen TV. Do they have your attention? I think so.

2. LEADS – From those hundreds or thousands of people , not all people will respond to the Ad due to different circumstances. Perhaps, there is no interest in the product offered or simply the prospect does not have the money. This causes only a fraction of  group that was advertised to respond and actually come in for the product advertised. in this case for the 25%OFF their  flat screen TV. For those that have become interested in the offer and come into the store, they now officially become a lead. A person that has raised their hand and showed an interest in the product or service offered or advertised.

3. OPPORTUNITIES: Now that you are in the store as lead (remember, you have not bought yet, but you are interested), this creates an opportunity for the salesmen on the floor to make  sale. You have an interest in a product, they have an interest in selling, there is opportunity for BOTH. Keep in mind that at this point of the “funnel” many will not purchase (again)for various reasons. They don’t qualify for financing, they decided the product is not what they want amongst many other reasons.

NOTICE: How the lower you are in the funnel, the less people you will find, but the the highest quality prospect also exists at the bottom

4. SALES: Assuming that we have a qualified buyer who is willing and able to purchase the product, a sale will be made via the exchange of money.

5. CLIENTS/CUSTOMERS: Depending on the industry that you are in, after the sale is made you would have attained a new customer or client. Professional services will acquire a client where as retail sales will acquire a customer. Since you bought from ABC Electronics, you are now their customer. However, ABC Electronics will have to treat you with the utmost respect and provide excellent customer service in order to RETAIN.

6. RETENTION: The final piece of the funnel is retention. What a business does to make sure to keep that client or customer happy is paramount. Having a great customer/ client experience will generate referrals and future business at no additional marketing costs. Just imagine, that when you bought your 60″ TV from ABC Electronics starting with the sale, they treated you like gold. They helped you install the TV at home and delivered it to you at a very convenient fee. You’re happy and now you tell your friends about your experience. And the sales cycles resumes.

Every time you go purchase something look at it as a sales funnel. When you go to the grocery store think about how everything is positioned inside the store. Think of your flow through the store up until check out. Notice how you have small items like chocolates, candy, magazines, and individual drinks? These are all placed with  a purpose. To increase the transaction size or dollar amount before you leave the store.

Do you recall the last time you purchased something online? Do you remember going through a funnel? let me refresh your memory. You went to a specific site to purchase product X, you find a great deal on it, and click “checkout”, but rather than going straight to inputting your CC information you get a window with “related products”, all trying to sell you more in an effort ton increase transaction size via a systematic way of leading you through the sales process. It happens all the time, everywhere you go.

So now that you know what  a sales funnel is, are you starting to get ideas? If you have a business or thought of having one, can you see how a sales funnel can help you increase sales?

Now remember, sales funnels have a lot of moving parts and need to be designed with a purpose in mind, to make the sale.  You need to know your prospect and know how to lead them to the sale. This involves certain skills that I will be teaching you in up coming posts.

BUSINESS IDEA: Imagine if you knew how to design sales funnels, could you help local businesses increase their sales?

To your success,

Personal Development 101

START HERE

Welcome to the first official IncreaseYourWorthNow.com Personal Development blog post. If you have read my story,  you know already that I struggled greatly trying to find my voice and discovering my true passions and callings. I have a deep passion and I am on mission to help those that are seeking help in finding their true calling.

Not knowing where you’re headed can be debilitating, disempowering to you and to those around you. Yet when you know what you want, you know your purpose, you become mighty and in return in inspire those around you.

I am a believer that personal growth always precedes financial growth. This is very important to understand because when you have a disproportion between your bank account and what YOU are TRULY worth in society, money starts to do whatever it wants with you and not the other way around. That is why we have a problem in our society as a whole. TV shows make stars out of people getting drunk on the beach and partying all night. Where is the value? Yet they are earning hundreds of thousands of dollars making fools out of themselves. Do you see the problem? This problem really makes my blood boil, and I sick of it!

But let’s talk about normal people, YOU. I want you to think about your financial situation right now, are you happy with where you’re at? If the answer is no, I want you to ask yourself this question… “What have I done to position myself to demand more?” Now don’t take this personal, but in order to have progress we must be brutally honest with one another. If the answer to the above questions is “nothing”, than I ask you, “then whose fault is it, that you’re not earning more?”.

Getting your mind right to accept that there is a lot of potential within you to grow to levels you never knew possible, will take discipline, courage and investment in yourself. If your not willing to invest in yourself, don’t expect any changes in your life. Society has conditioned us to fail, and the remote thought of being successful actually scares many, are you one them?

This site was created with one mission, “To empower half a million people to make a decision to increase their personal and financial worth to society through financial literacy and personal growth strategies so that they can go on to live a life of their choosing and inspire those around them in the process.”

Now, I am not here give you a Tony Robbins speech or make you walk on coal fire. What I am here to do is help you increase your personal worth by understanding who you are, exploring your strength so that you can go on to live a life of total fulfillment. But the most important part about this is, that YOU with your actions will empower others to do the same and together we can change the lives of thousands of people world-wide.

The world needs better leaders, and it starts with you.

Marketing 101

MARKETING 101

Here at IncreaseYourWorthNow.com we believe that in order for you to start demanding more, you need to be worth more. We also believe that part of Financial Literacy is knowing how to make money using skills you already have or are developing. You can increase your worth DRASTICALLY by learning a new skill (such as marketing). A skill that can actually make you a living if you commit to learning it. That’s of course if you like it. This section is designed to give you an insight on the topic of marketing. PLEASE NOTE: The form of marketing I will be sharing with you is called “Direct Response Marketing”. I will regularly post more detailed information about specifics on marketing on my blog, therefore be sure to check back. OK, here we go….

Marketing is one of my favorite topics. In my 3 businesses I am responsible for creating all my marketing pieces and campaigns. One of the reasons why I truly enjoy marketing is because, you can break it down to a science on how a specific group of people will respond to a specific advertisement based on their wants and desires. When you know this information, you can now sell anything you want. Learning how to proficiently market can give you the opportunity to start a home business, sell things online, sell things offline, or even start a new career consulting small businesses with information very few people know about. And guess what? You’re about to be introduced  to this new and vital information for the New Economy.

So what is marketing, exactly? Marketing simply put…

Is delivering the right message, to the right people, at the right time. PERIOD. Anything else is just noise.

For the purposes of this site and blog we will be focusing on “Direct Response Marketing” . This form of marketing is used by most small business owners that have a limited budget and MUST track results. This form of marketing is the only way you will be able to compete against the “big boys” in your desired field interest. By becoming proficient at this you can climb your way to the top of fairly quickly by simply knowing what people respond to.

Just as an aside: The other form of marketing is called BRANDING. This is usually reserved for companies with deep pockets in which all they are interested in is creating a buzz or “awareness” of their product or service. Just to give you an example. When you see a billboard with a beautiful woman grabbing a man by his hair with a bottle of cologne in the corner, that’s branding. They are selling you the “desire” to be that man.

If you were to see an Ad for that same cologne where it says “$10 OFF with the purchase of $100 or more, good until the end of this month”. THAT’S Direct Response marketing ad. The vendor wants you to take an action based on his agenda.

What is Direct Response Marketing?

This form of marketing allows the customer to respond to an offer made by a vendor in a few different ways including..

  • Calling in to get more information or placing an order
  • Bringing in a discount coupon to be redeemed at time of purchase
  • Submitting personal information in exchange for the information requested
  • more.
This form of marketing allows the vendor to gauge his marketing efforts and results, by simply counting the number of responses to the offer he has made he can have an idea if that marketing effort is going to be profitable or not. For example…

Assume that you have a Sandwich shop and within the neighborhood where you are located there are 100 homes. You send out 100 coupons via mail and within 10 days you have 10 people show up with their coupon wanting to buy the juicy toasted sandwich you advertised. This means that you had a 10% response rate, right? 10/100 = .10 Now you do your numbers….

Lets say it cost you  50 cents to send 100 coupons via mail, that means you spent $50 dollars. That coupon was offering 10%off a $10 sandwich that you have in your shop. So that means you were selling your sandwich for $9. If 10 people came in and bought your $9 juicy toasted sandwich, you would have made $90 just on sandwich sales. Was this a profitable campaign? Absolutely. So now you know that for every $50 you put in, you can get $90 back. Now don’t forget that those customers are going to purchase am extra soda, cookie or anything else you may want to “UP SELL” them while they are there, which increases your transaction or purchase size. You have now created a sales funnel ( you can go here to learn more).

Now, in order for a direct marketing campaign to be most profitable, you must have these 3 things, no exceptions.
  1. An Offer
  2. Call To Action
  3. A Deadline
Going back to your Sandwich shop, let’s quickly create that coupon for your 10% off that we just discussed.
Line 1 & 2 The Offer :10% off their super sandwich
(This creates interest of your buyer)
Line 3 Call To Action:  Bring this coupon to be able to save.
(This tells your buyer what he needs to do to receive your offer)
Line 4 The Deadline : Must come in before the date to take advantage of the offer.
(Tell your buyers that if he doesn’t act by X he will miss out on the offer)

You see how these 3 elements work together? You must create interest, once you have created interest you must clearly state what you want your prospect to do and finally you must state a clear deadline or urgency. Without this your prospect is likely to never take action. Most small businesses miss the mark when creating their marketing pieces. But you won’t, right?

 Why Marketing?

In world where everyone has their guard up, creating an effective marketing piece can break the barrier between you the vendor and your prospect. This marketing piece can help education or pre-condition your prospect to trust you and eventually buy from you, making the sales process much smoother. If you have your marketing done right, the sales process ALMOST takes care of itself.
Looking back at the sandwich coupon, the person that decides to carry this coupon into your sandwich shop has “pre-sold” himself to buy the sandwich you offered. Now all you have to do as the owner is to make sure that his experience at your shop is the best he’s had. You create re-peat customers and referrals.  That’s the power of marketing.

Marketing also creates leverage, rather than you having to do all the leg work to promote your product or service, you create Advertisements that do all the selling and telling for you. This allows your to multiply yourself as many times needed freeing up your time to do other things, such as servicing your customers and creating new opportunities for growth.
Marketing also allows you to create posture. When someone picks up the phone to call you rather than you calling them, or them walking into your shop, that changes the dynamics of  a sale tremendously. You now have authority and are positioned to make the sale more effectively.

In a nutshell, marketing is your ability to create advertising pieces that grab your customer’s attention with “an offer”. once you have their attention you want to direct them on what to do next via a “call to action”. And finally, you want your prospect to respond in a timely manner therefore you must state a deadline or expiration date.

I briefly touched the surface on this topic with hopes to create more interest in you wanting to learn more and increase your worth by learning something new. I will be posting more detailed information about marketing in upcoming posts so be sure to follow and subscribe to be notified when new posts are made.  The topics I will be touching will be… how to write effective marketing pieces, finding your target market (people who want, are willing and able to buy your products or services) and different forms of delivering your message to your buyers and much more.

Business Idea: Could you start a side business creating marketing pieces for local businesses that have no clue on how to do so?
